2003

Achieved full online traceability system-wide, from roe to finished product 

2003

Engaged with WWF, others to develop ASC standard for salmon aquaculture 

2004

Opens first Fishcut operation to provide direct-to-retail region  retail products and distribution, now 10 such operations worldwide. 

2006

Lerøy launched Aurora salmon, specifically raised for the Japanese sushi market with strict fat and taste requirements.  Aurora remains the leading salmon brand in Japan. 

2011

Launched Europe’s largest sushi meal manufacturing facility. We now have 5 of these worldwide. 

2011

Achieved 100% antibiotic-free status, which remains to this day.   

2013

Lerøy awarded first ASC Certified salmon farm in the world. 

2013

Completed world’s largest-scale eco-friendly RAS smolt facility.  Powered by hydroelectric sources, achieves 98% water recirculation. 

2014

Launches multitrophic project Ocean Forest with Bellona (Sahara desert) carbon-negative production of seaweed (sugar kelp) and mussels. Lerøy is now the biggest producer of organic seaweed in all Scandinavian countries.

Lerøy began testing of microalgae in feed. 

2015

Lerøy took a leading position in cleaner fish production and deployment, largest producer and user of lumpfish and wrasse. 

2016

Incorporated microalgae as a standard feed ingredient.  The microalgae are produced with low carbon footprint, water and land use impacts. 

2016

Permanently eliminated use of palm oil, chitin inhibitors (ethoxyquin), salmon oil (carnivorous). 

2016

Acquired the largest share of MSC certified fishery quotas in Norway. Over 95 % of all Lerøy’s wild catch quotas are MSC-certified, appx 20% of all Norwegian wild fish quotas. 

2017

Lerøy began using oil from Camelina as a feed ingredient, Camelina is a plant known for its ability to grow in infertile soil and requires only low levels of water and fertiliser. The oil from this plant is particularly rich in Omega-3 fatty acids. 

2018

Opened the world’s most modern salmon factory in Jøsnøya, fulfilling the vision of producing a salmon from roe to ready packed fillet untouched by human hands.  

2018

Achieved the #1 spot in Coller FAIRR index, an independent analysis of the world’s leading protein producers as measured by critical environmental, social and governance areas. 

2019

Launched Mær organic seaweed from polyculture 

2019

Begin incorporation of insect flour in feed.  We are the largest buyer of insect flour in the world. 

2020

Fully operational block chain traceability extended tracking with QR code  

2020

Lerøy launched 50/50/5 initiative - Plastic reduction by 50% in 5 years
